You've chosen the role TOP! When playing the role top, you normally either play a bruiser, fighter, or tank type champion. Occasionally assassins or marksmen are good top, but it can be riskier. The role of most top lane champions is to engage the enemy team late game to get a winning fight, or to destroy the enemy top laner so you're so far ahead they can't come back. Top is the most solo focused role, but can also be heavily influenced by the jungler. If I was just starting to play top lane, I would choose a champion like Darius. Darius has relatively easy mechanics, and just relies on auto attack resets and hitting his Q. Darius can destroy lane and punish the enemies mistakes easily, and also can flank in a team fight and destroy the enemies backline. Although Darius is a great champion for beginners, he has on weakness. All of his abilities are very short ranged, and he doesn't have any gap closers.
